Keen to extend Bradley Barcola’s contract, which currently runs until June 2028, PSG have made a first renewal offer to the 23-year-old winger. However, the club would now like greater clarity regarding the player’s intentions, as the situation continues to drag on.

A key player, even without guaranteed starter status

After a less productive season than last year — when he surpassed 20 combined goals and assists — Barcola remains an important member of Luis Enrique’s squad, even if he is no longer an automatic starter. His place on the bench at kick-off against Marseille in the Trophée des Champions illustrated that reality.

That said, Barcola is still highly valued by Luis Enrique and Luis Campos, who made him one of their first major signings after arriving at the club in the summer of 2023.

First renewal offer submitted

With Barcola now halfway through his contract and only two years remaining after the current season, PSG have submitted a first extension proposal, according to RMC Sport. The length of the proposed extension and the financial terms have not been disclosed, and the player has not yet responded.

Change of agent slows discussions

While Jorge Mendes negotiated Barcola’s move to PSG, the French international recently changed representation and is now advised by Moussa Sissoko, an agent who represents several PSG players. Negotiations initially began under Mendes, and this change has slowed progress.

According to a well-informed Paris-based insider, discussions remain positive, despite the delay.

PSG want to understand Barcola’s plans

Beyond the contract offer itself, PSG want to better understand Barcola’s personal ambitions. It is clear that the winger would like to start more regularly, especially in major matches where Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is often preferred on the left flank. However, Barcola has never publicly expressed a desire to leave Paris.

He is highly rated across Europe, with Liverpool and Bayern Munich among the clubs linked to him last summer — though PSG firmly shut the door at the time.

A situation to resolve quickly

Next summer could present a different scenario if Barcola enters the final two years of his contract without an agreement in place, particularly if the player signals a wish to move. PSG are therefore keen to progress talks quickly, with further meetings already planned, in order to anticipate all possible outcomes.

Should Barcola ultimately request a transfer, PSG would move to identify a replacement during the upcoming summer window, although RMC Sport reports that no targets have yet been contacted.

Heavy workload last season

It is also worth recalling that Barcola was Luis Enrique’s most-used player last season, featuring in 64 matches — an exceptionally high number that helps explain both his dip in form this year and his recurring minor physical issues.
