Following their 3–2 Ligue 1 victory in Metz, Paris Saint-Germain flew to Doha on Sunday to begin preparations for Wednesday’s Intercontinental Cup final against Flamengo. While Achraf Hakimi and Senny Mayulu were not part of the traveling delegation, Matvey Safonov did make the trip.
PSG will face the Brazilian side Flamengo on Wednesday evening, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 PM local time in Doha (6:00 PM in France). The match will be broadcast free-to-air on M6, as well as on beIN Sports 1.
Mayulu and Hakimi absent from the trip
Although Luis Enrique named a 22-man squad for this three-day stay in Qatar, Senny Mayulu did not travel with the team due to a viral illness that had already ruled him out of the match in Metz. According to Le Parisien, the young attacking midfielder is expected to join the group on Monday, once his recovery allows.
Achraf Hakimi is also absent from the trip. The Moroccan full-back is currently in Morocco, continuing his recovery and preparing for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations, and was therefore not part of the delegation to Doha.
Safonov present despite social media confusion
Matvey Safonov, on the other hand, is fully fit and included in the squad selected by Luis Enrique. His presence was logical, given that he is neither injured nor ill.
However, when PSG shared an official photo of the traveling group prior to departure, Safonov did not immediately appear in the image, prompting some online speculation. The mystery was quickly resolved, as the Russian goalkeeper was simply standing just behind Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, a detail later confirmed through additional photos and videos published by the club.
Training schedule in Doha
Local Qatari media also shared footage of PSG’s arrival in Doha on Sunday evening. The squad will train Monday at 12:00 PM local time (10:00 AM in France) at the Al Ersal Training Site 3, before holding their final session on Tuesday at the Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, starting at 4:00 PM French time.
PSG will then attempt to lift their sixth trophy of the 2025 calendar year when they face Flamengo on Wednesday.
