PSG Frustrated in Bilbao as Unai Simón Steals the Show
PSG were held to a 0–0 draw at San Mamés after a tense and physical match where Athletic Bilbao’s goalkeeper Unai Simón delivered a world-class performance and was officially named UEFA Player of the Match.
Luis Enrique: “We would have deserved the victory”
Speaking to Canal+, Luis Enrique expressed a mix of frustration and confidence:
“The match was tight, very difficult, especially in the first half. We would have deserved the victory, we could have won this match. I think we started well, we saw their high pressing, and we had chances in the second half.”
He also commented on PSG’s overall level and the context of the season:
“The team’s level is normal for a European champion, with this very particular start to the season, without all our players. I’m confident. This result is unfortunate, but the group is calm. We just need to win one more match.”
On Marquinhos:
“Marquinhos? I don’t know, we’ll have to wait. He asked to come off at halftime. We’ll see tomorrow.”
Vitinha: “If you score, it changes everything”
Vitinha also shared his reaction after the match:
“We always want the victory. In a match like this, when you don’t score, it becomes difficult. We had too many chances. If you score, it changes everything. There is always work to do. But football is like that.”
Unai Simón: The wall of San Mamés
PSG created numerous chances:
– Barcola hit the crossbar
– Berchiche cleared a shot off the line
– Multiple 1-on-1 saves by Simón
But Unai Simón repeatedly denied Paris, earning the MVP and preventing PSG from overtaking the top of the group, where Arsenal and Bayern continue to pull ahead.
