Outstanding on Thursday night against Marseille, Nuno Mendes did not limit his impact to the pitch. After PSG’s victory over OM on penalties in the Trophée des Champions, the Portuguese full-back took a playful jab at Leonardo Balerdi on social media.

A strong performance — and a post-match dig

Solid defensively and once again very active going forward, Nuno Mendes was one of PSG’s standout performers in a hard-fought final that ended 2–2 before a penalty shootout victory for the Parisian side.

After the match, Mendes posted an Instagram story aimed directly at Marseille captain Leonardo Balerdi, writing:

“Try again next time, Balerdi.”

The message was accompanied by a photo previously shared by Balerdi after OM’s 1–0 win over PSG in September in Ligue 1 — a picture showing Mendes on the ground between the Argentine defender’s legs, which Balerdi had proudly posted following that victory.

PSG players and fans enjoy the moment

Unsurprisingly, Mendes’ post was quickly noticed by PSG supporters on social media, who thoroughly enjoyed the comeback. Achraf Hakimi also reacted, dropping a laughing emoji under his teammate’s story.

Speaking to PSG TV after lifting another trophy, Mendes kept the tone more composed but no less confident:

“This is Paris Saint-Germain. We never stop, we want to win every match, and that’s what happened today. I think it was a good team performance, we gave everything until the end. The emotion is strong. Another trophy for PSG — we’re showing that we’re the best in France, and today we deserved to win.”

A confident PSG, on and off the pitch

Already in a teasing mood, Nuno Mendes was also seen celebrating the title light-heartedly with a member of PSG’s staff after the final whistle — a reflection of a squad clearly enjoying both its success and its rivalry with Marseille.

With another trophy added to their collection, PSG’s confidence — and personality — continues to shine through.
