Following a tense and physically demanding match in Bilbao that ended without a goal, Luis Enrique spoke to the media with a mix of satisfaction and regret. Despite the missed chances, the PSG manager highlighted the quality of the performance, touched on the atmosphere, individual player situations like Barcola and Marquinhos, and reflected on the broader context of PSG’s season.

Here is the full translated and reformulated version of his press conference.

Are you frustrated with the result?

Luis Enrique:

“Frustrated? No, not at all. I don’t think there’s anything to be frustrated about. It was an intense match, very different from what we usually see. We knew exactly the kind of game Athletic and their fans would produce.

I think the team did a great job. We started the match clearly, with purpose, even though it was difficult because their pressing was excellent. In the second half, the dynamics changed — we managed to overcome their pressure, and we created enough clear chances to win.

But Unai Simón was outstanding tonight. He was easily the man of the match.

The atmosphere was incredible, just as expected. Athletic pressed at a really high level throughout the game. Honestly, they deserve more points than they have. But that’s football.

For us, it’s a bit disappointing because the group is very tight. We’re going to need even more points to finish in the top eight.”

You mentioned the incredible atmosphere. Do you think it affected your players?

Luis Enrique:

“The atmosphere was exactly what we anticipated — incredible. It’s beautiful to play in a stadium like this. I think we used the atmosphere to show what kind of team we want to be.

For both sides, the worst part of the night is the scoreline. A 0–0 is an ugly result when both teams created chances. It could have ended very differently.”

Given the intensity Bilbao brought, is this a match that helps you evaluate your team’s current level?

Luis Enrique:

“We evaluate our team every day — every match, every training session, every moment.

When you consider how unusual the start of our season has been, with players missing or joining late, I’m actually very optimistic. I’m excited to get everyone back and approach the second half of the season — after Christmas — with the entire squad available.

Over these last few months, the players have shown our level. As a team, we’re already better than last year. And don’t forget: we’re the reigning Champions League winners. So we look toward the future with positivity and confidence.”

Marquinhos came off at halftime. What happened?

Luis Enrique:

“I’m not sure exactly what the issue is. It doesn’t seem serious, but we need to wait until tomorrow to know more.”
