As announced by RMC on Friday, the Paris Court of Appeal has confirmed the cancellation of the €55 million precautionary seizure placed on Paris Saint-Germain’s bank accounts in the financial dispute opposing the club and Kylian Mbappé, sources close to the case told AFP.

The precautionary seizure had been obtained in April by the Real Madrid forward as part of his claim for unpaid salaries and bonuses. However, it was lifted on May 26 by the Paris judicial court, whose enforcement judge ordered the removal of the seizures on three PSG bank accounts.

Following that decision, Mbappé’s legal team lodged an appeal.

On December 9, the Paris Court of Appeal upheld the initial ruling, definitively confirming the cancellation of the €55 million seizure, according to three sources close to the file, thereby confirming RMC’s report.

PSG: “A matter of good faith”

Reacting to the decision, PSG’s lawyer Renaud Semerdjian stated:

“For the second time, the courts have confirmed the lack of legal basis for Mr Mbappé’s requests relating to the seizures carried out on the Club’s accounts last April. Fundamentally, this entire dispute is simply a matter of good faith, the preservation of values, and respect for the commitments that were made.”

Mbappé, who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer in the summer of 2024, is claiming €55 million in allegedly unpaid salaries and bonuses. While the precautionary seizure was initially authorized for that amount, it could only be applied in practice to €14 million.

Legal battle continues

For months, both parties have been engaged in legal proceedings before sports authorities, which declared themselves unable to enforce rulings favorable to the player due to a jurisdictional hearing requested by PSG before the Paris judicial court. That hearing has since been postponed to February 23.

Contacted on Saturday by AFP, Mbappé’s entourage did not immediately respond.

This appeal court decision comes just days ahead of another key milestone in the case: a hearing scheduled for Tuesday before the Conseil des prud’hommes, which will deliver its ruling following the November hearing. During that session, Mbappé claimed €263 million, while PSG counterclaimed €440 million.

Disputed verbal agreement

PSG maintains that both parties reached a verbal agreement in the summer of 2023, under which Mbappé — set to leave without a transfer fee — agreed to forgo part of the sums owed at the end of his contract in order to protect the club’s financial stability.

A version firmly rejected by Mbappé’s camp, which describes the alleged agreement as a “fantasy” and insists that no such deal was ever concluded in August 2023.
